Many photographers will tell you that engagement sessions are a great way for the couple and photographer to “get to know each other” before the wedding day, and practice being subjects; I am not here to tell you that. You do NOT need to do an engagement session with me for me to do a great job on your wedding photos. We will build a rapport together as we plan your event timeline and discuss what is important to you, and we will develop trust through conversation and interaction.
Engagement sessions ARE a great opportunity to capture casual, beautiful portraits during your courtship. The photoshoot is fun, a unique “date night,” and a memorable moment in your engagement. The images are often used for save-the-dates, as gifts for families, or are put in an album or hung on the walls.
I also photograph surprise proposals, with an engagement session right afterward, if you are looking to professionally capture the exact moment you “pop the question” and the resulting emotions that follow.
New Jersey and Pennsylvania are very geographically diverse and are full of picturesque spots for couples portraits that look completely different from season to season. Choose from beaches, rivers, boardwalks, skylines, wineries, museums, or lush green parks, each with its own appeal. If you aren’t sure when to get your engagement pictures taken, I recommend choosing the opposite season of your wedding, for variety in scenery.
I am happy to take your engagement portraits at a spot important to you as a couple, like the bar you first met, the park you walked together every weekend, or even your college campus. If you don’t have any idea where to start, I hope this list is helpful.
