Holly Hedge weddings have always been on my shortlist of favorites. Holly Hedge Estate sits on a beautiful piece of property in New Hope Pennsylvania, and there are so many beautiful compositional scenarios to choose from. From the gorgeous bridal suite that is a beautiful, rustic cottage, to the authentic barn that is used as a stunning backdrop for the outdoor ceremonies in the courtyard. I’ve had the pleasure of shooting dozens of Holly Hedge Estate weddings over the years, and it’s comforting to know that I’m never short on ideas for image making when I shoot there.
This image, the first look between Danielle and Kenneth, occurred directly in front of the main area of the estate. I chose this spot because the lighting was great, and the background was beautiful. This wedding had special meaning to me. Danielle is the daughter of one of my very best friends. I’ve worked so many weddings that it was a joy to be a guest with a camera. I felt their joy throughout the day, and I was just happy I was available for their family.
I shot this with my Nikon D5, Nikkor 70-200mm F4 lens, and because of the light, I kept my subject between me and the sun in order to create dramatic backlighting. I was also able to take them to a few locations at Holly Hedge Estate that are nooks and crannies that nobody has used for photos. I’m able to produce unique images that nobody else has from there. Weddings at Holly Hedge are a treat, and I can’t wait until the next one!
