I'm not sure what accolades would suffice when describing weddings at Oheka Castle in Huntington NY. Once known as the Otto Khan Estate, is located on the North Shore of Long Island NY. It’s the second largest private home in the United States, and it’s comprised of 127 rooms over 109,000 square feet of property. In 1984, this mansion was purchased by a developer and was, at the time, the largest private residential renovation project in the United States. And, what a renovation it is. It is probably the single most spectacular mansion that I've ever had the privilege of shooting a wedding in.
Most wedding venues on Long Island pale in comparison to Oheka Castle. Oheka weddings have an incredible elegance, and they also provide me, as a photographer, with a variety of photographic opportunity anywhere I look. I have shot a few weddings there in the dead of winter, and because the mansion is so ornate and beautiful, we were able to capture amazing photos even though we didn't take a single picture outside.
Fortunately, for this particular Oheka Castle bride, we had the opportunity to go outdoors and make some stunning bridal photos. Both the ceremony and reception were held there, and a phenomenal time was had by all.
This image was taken at the beginning of the day, where we did the first look near the entrance to the castle. I used my Nikkor 70-200 and my D3S to create this image.
