I love shooting brides with birdcage veils. In fact, I’ve joked that all brides should wear one. Photographs of birdcage veils look incredibly cool, and I’m able to produce some fantastic bridal portraits of brides wearing birdcage veils. Birdcage veil photos tend to be very dramatic because they’re so much different from a standard veil or a cathedral veil as well.
I really enjoy shooting these images with a little window light, and I’ll use a shallow depth of field with my Nikkor 85mm 1.4 lens to provide a dimension to the photo that adds impact.
This is one of my favorite brides, Kerry. She had a wedding at the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City, NJ, and we began the day at the Jersey City Hyatt Hotel. This image was taken at the beginning of the day a the Jersey City Hyatt, minutes before we went out to photography a "first look" with her groom. It was lit only with beautiful window light, and I really like how stark the photo is because of the dark background juxtaposed with the directional window light falling on Kerry’s face.
After these portraits of the bride, we did the first look and then headed over to Liberty State Park for more photos of our couple before heading over to the Liberty House Ceremony at sunset. There are several more images from this Liberty House wedding on this website and the blog as well.
